Iran stresses continuing talks on Syrian crisis

TEHRAN, May 07 (MNA) – Leader’s senior adviser Ali Akbar Velayati once again announced the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for Syrian nation against terrorist and extremist groups.

Stressing that Syria is more than ever in a position of strength, the senior aid to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati hailed the resistance of the Syrian government and people against foreign-backed terrorists, saying Iran supports the resistance of Syrian people.

Closing his visit to Lebanon, Velayati arrived in Syria on Friday and was welcomed by Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad and the local authorities.

Pointing to Iran as a friend in need for the Syrian nation and government, Mekdad praised Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the government and the people of Iran due to their support for Syria.

Head of Strategic Research Center expressed pleasure for his trip to Syria, saying, “relations between the two brotherly countries of Iran and Syria and the need to maintain stability and security in the region requires regular visits between the two sides to assess the situation and the status of developments in the region."

Velayati underlined the need for talks between Iran and Syria on a regular basis. “I believe that the Syrian president has proved he is able to lead the country with prudence and courage and, God willing, will succeed in his efforts to rescue Syrian nation from the clutches of terrorists.”

Faisal Mekdad also reassured Iran, Syria and other allies are moving toward a great victory.

“Iran has always stood beside the Syrian people and the relations between the two countries are strategic and decisive,” Mekdad said adding that Syria insists on political resolution of the crisis, a strategy that is denied by terrorist groups, the regime of Riyadh, Turkey and Qatar which are far from the right path."

He underlined they do not deserve to participate in any international action to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Syrian official announced that the terrorist groups are fed by the leaders who are not pleased with the victory of the Syrian army. “Syria is committed to its international obligations and respects the ceasefire in Aleppo or elsewhere," Mehdad concluded.

Ali Akbar Velayati is scheduled to meet with the provincial officials and also the injured Syrians in the hospitals, during his visit to Syria.
